Free photo location remover

Phones save where every photo was taken. Check any picture for GPS location and download a clean copy with all hidden metadata removed.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Clean copies are saved as JPEG (or PNG for PNG files) at high quality. HEIC photos need converting first on some browsers.

How to use it

  1. 1

Choose one or more photos, or drop them onto the box.

  2. 2

See which ones carry GPS location and which camera took them.

  3. 3

Download the clean copy. It looks the same but carries no metadata.

Questions

How do I remove the location from a photo?

Open the photo in this tool and download the clean copy. The picture is redrawn in your browser and saved again without its EXIF block, which is where your phone stores GPS coordinates, the date and the camera model. The original file on your phone is not changed.

Does sending a photo on WhatsApp remove the location?

WhatsApp strips most metadata from photos sent in a chat, but files sent as documents, email attachments, cloud links and many other apps keep it. If you are not sure how a photo will travel, clean it first. It takes a few seconds and nothing leaves your device.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool reads the file inside your browser tab, rebuilds the image there and gives it straight back to you as a download. There is no server involved, so it also works offline once the page has loaded.

How do I stop my phone saving location in photos?

Open your camera app settings and turn off location tags, sometimes called Save location or Location tags. That stops new photos carrying GPS. Photos you already took still have it, which is what this tool removes.
