Questions

What is Private DNS on Android?

A setting that sends every DNS lookup from your phone encrypted (DNS over TLS) to a provider you pick, instead of your mobile network or Wi-Fi router. It works in every app and needs no extra app.

Which Private DNS blocks ads and trackers?

AdGuard DNS blocks many ad and tracking domains, Cloudflare's security hostname and Quad9 block known malware. Filtering this way is coarse and the same for every app. For your own lists and per-app rules, use an app like Repel.

Where is Private DNS in my settings?

On most phones it is under Settings, Network and internet, Private DNS. On Samsung it is under Connections, More connection settings, Private DNS. You can also search Settings for Private DNS.

Will Private DNS slow down my phone?

Usually not. These providers run large fast networks and often answer quicker than a mobile network's DNS. If a site stops loading, switch the setting back to Automatic.
